Vomitus-Narcisus, 2007
Bronze, 80 x 108 x 90 cm
This sculpture displays a life-sized nude woman crouching in a pose of urination or labor. I was influenced in this work by the German artist Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945). The center of the latent fountain that streams inside the woman’s mouth, instead of a tongue, is a significant feature for me.
I made this sculpture during my pregnancy, at the same time as the Second Lebanon War took place in 2006. I wished to indicate that this sculpted woman’s internality is the surface image for her invisible reflection, her anti-narcissus.
