Vomitus-Narcissus
2007
Bronze, 80 × 108 × 90 cm
This sculpture displays a life-sized nude woman crouching.
The work is a latent fountain — water streams from the figure’s open mouth. The name of the work implies that the woman is indeed vomiting and unlike the myth of Narcissus, she cannot recognize her own reflection let alone admire it.
I made this work while I was pregnant and influenced by the German artist Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945), whose work I greatly respect.
