Transit, 1994
ArtFocus, Tel Aviv central bus station, Tel Aviv, Israel
Curator: Sarit Shapira

This installation was one of Landau’s inaugural public shows, which was exhibited at Tel Aviv’s Central Bus Station in a neglected urban spot, which served as a hideout for the homeless and Palestinian construction workers who were employed far from home.

The impetus for this show was the discovery of a hole in a plaster wall in a dilapidated area of the new/old building of the station. The incursion into the hole in the wall became the physical entrance into the installation, lending visitors a layered view of this architectural wasteland. The artist reorganized the different objects that she had found strewn there on the filthy floor. In some cases, she made use of these vestiges of life in the construction of new works.
