David [Bridge I], 2022

Video, 5:01 min

A young man is seen walking through a desert ravine (Nahal Kedem), collecting stones and casting them skillfully towards the surface of the salty water of the dead sea. The skipped stones cut both the air and the water on their way east, until they plunged into the water – sinking to the bottom of the lowest place on earth.

The throwing man refers (in his body, age, and clothing – as well as in his determination of action) to the images of early Zionist pioneers which were passionately working the land of Israel, as captured by documentarists in the early 30’s. The Goliath of this David is the huge body of industrial corporations, which are drying the Dead Sea. Momentary bridges are created with every skipping stone that David throws, but these bridges, and the hope they carry, are dissolving each time a stone sinks.
