Tower of Torment, 2025
Video, 20 min.
I created Tower of Torment inspired by the ancient Jewish custom of leaving an area unpainted in memory of the Temple's destruction, and I turned it "outwards" onto the Gauforum tower in Weimar, a site built by Nazi forced laborers.
In the short film, I document a performer appearing on the balcony and initially painting the area around the window in a radial pattern with white paint. When night falls, a second performer switches on a light inside and continues the act, covering the white mark with black paint.
This contrasting marking points to the flaw of the place, turning the window into a wound, a void, and an absence. The work premiered at the Kunstfest festival and is intended for permanent loan to the new Museum of Forced Labour under National Socialism.
