David Bügeleisen, restorer at Jerusalem’s Israel Museum, would not allow the exhibition of Sigalit Landau’s work in the main space unless it was placed in a sealed perspex case, because fungus and mould might damage artworks produced with organic materials as well as people. The work was called Wounded Territory (1995), and was a sort of bed, made of 500 connected mouse pads, saturated with sugar and chicken soup for the fungus to thrive on. In this conversation with Landau, Bügeleisen explains the measures taken by the museum to maintain artworks in good condition.
