Maddona and Child, 2011
Marble, various dimensions
The project I call ‘Madonna and Child’ is an edition of marble sculptures carved in the form of differently posed breastfeeding cushions. Created in various kinds of marble, the soft forms are posed in closed unaccommodating arrangements, which are subtly figurative. The work is a statement on my motherhood, representing private issues which are in major contrast to the art history icon 'Madonna and Child', the universal depiction, throughout western art history, of the worshipped and sanctified motherhood.
