Woman Giving Birth to Herself, 2003.

Metal armature, papier-mâché, and mixed media, 190x55x85cm

A sculpture of a woman doubled over in pain, when something (herself) departs/arrives from her body. First, seen between her legs is her head. Three time zones and three questions and three organs undergoing highly improbable procedures: who is she? Who will she be, after abandoning who she was? How does one perform an act of being turned inside out? [wikipedia.org/wiki/Moulting]. Is she exploring a second chance to be alive?
A rebirth? A variation of the Christian baptism? A Holy Ghost mother? A combination of solid bones and expandable holes; life and death/gasping for more for more? for dignity?
